  Clean your Birkenstock in 4 simple steps!

Step 1

To wash your Birkenstock sandals, you'll need a brush, an old toothbrush, a cloth, some leather shampoo and a bowl of water.

You can wash your suede Birkenstocks with a soft brush, using gentle strokes to remove dust and dirt.

To properly care for leather Birkenstocks, you need a lint-free, slightly damp cloth.

Step 2

Open the straps and gently clean the inside and outside of the straps with a dry brush.

Use a toothbrush to lather up the shampoo, and wash the insole of your Birkenstocks in a circular motion.

Step 3

Wipe your sandals with a damp cloth, using lukewarm water. Remember not to rinse your sandals under running water and be careful not to get them completely wet. Next, use a damp brush to clean the sole, then wipe it with a slightly damp cloth.

Step 4

Let your sandals dry naturally at room temperature, and never under the sun or near a heater. Your Birkenstocks will be completely dry in about 24 hours.

When they're dry, brush the bottom again and close the straps.

Extra notes

• If your Birkenstock sandals have a suede/nubuck upper, you can spray them with a colorless waterproofing spray.

• If your slides feature a natural leather upper, regularly apply leather grease, avoiding the bottom.
