FILA was founded in 1911 by the brothers Ettore and Giansevero Fila. The business started with the manufacture of textile clothing, mainly underwear, for people living in the Italian Alps. In the 1970s, it moved into sportswear, and in 1973 it entered the market under the Fila Sport brand, with a collection of tennis clothing. Also that year, the signature F-box logo was designed, which is still famous today. At that time, many collaborations were made with famous tennis players such as Björn Borg, Guillermo Vilas and Adriano Panatta, which helped to increase the brand's recognition.

After a few years, in 1991, the company turned from the clothing sector in Europe to the footwear sector in the United States.
